In May of this year, the World Health Organisation (WHO) classified burn-out as an “occupational phenomenon”. It is described as “resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed”.
What should you be aware of? (according to the WHO website)
- Exhaustion and depletion of energy.
- Increased mental distance from one’s job, or negative/cynical feelings related to your job.
- Feeling like you are just not as efficient at your job as you once were.
When you are in this spiral, you may not think there is a way out. There is.
You need to look at what other factors may be involved. Often there are underlying issues such as your ability to cope with general life pressures has reduced, you may be dealing with traumas or challenging living conditions, you may have health changes and challenges, possibly hormone imbalances (women often experience this feeling of burn-out in their 40s and 50s), and is your diet right for you and providing everything you need? Many people when they are at the stage of burn-out will grab quick and easy foods that are not actually helping them at all.
Don’t try to battle through this on your own. Get help and really start to live again.
Why? Because you are absolutely worth it.
