Electrolyte foods

With the temperatures now truly looking like summer, I thought it would be a good time to talk to you about the importance of electrolytes.

Hydration during summer in particular is very important, but so is ensuring we have adequate electrolytes – think potassium, magnesium, calcium and sodium – just to name a few.
Inadequate intake can lead to issues such as dehydration, dizziness, fatigue, headaches, mental confusion and cramping.  Well, none of that sounds fun!

Foods that can help maintain your electrolyte balance (and your own balance – dizziness is a very common issue) are avocado, beetroot, bananas, kiwifruit, leafy green veg, celery, dairy, coconut water and pumpkin seeds (pepitas).  There are lots of other foods too – this list just gives you some easy grab-and-go options.
