The effect of inflammation on motivation and energy

You wouldn’t think they are linked, but a paper released in “Trends in Cognitive Sciences” talks about this.

What they found is that when the body is trying to address inflammation to help it heal (the immune system releases cytokines) from an illness or an underlying health condition (eg obesity, chronic stress, metabolic conditions, etc), the mesolimbic system in the brain signals to cut dopamine production to conserve energy to help with healing, leaving you with reduced motivation.

So – if you are feeling really low in motivation, it may be more than a case of “can’t be bothered”.
And… we may very well be able to do something about this.
And no, I will not fix this by coming to do your pile of dishes 😊.
